5 Institutional Research

In this post I will be researching the media institution linked to my chosen brief, paying particular attention to the type of company they are and the type of media products they produce.  I will also be looking into how the company ethos is reflected in their products, this will give me a ideas on how I can incorporate this into my own production of both the main task and the website. I think by understanding the institution linked to my chosen brief, it will enable me to produce a media text that follows and reflects their style, ideologies and ethos more effectively. The company for this set of research who I will use to provide copyright for the soundtrack in my video, as stated in the brief, is Warner Music Group, otherwise known as WMG. This institution is known for being responsible for content produced by many mainstream artists such as Ed Sheeran and Cardi B, and even older artists and bands such as Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Coldplay.

4 Media Theory Research

In this post I am going to be exploring the ways in which a range of media theories are able to be applied to chosen media texts. As a result of doing this, I will be able to independently make an initial decision in terms of which media theory I am most likely to use embed well within the production of my music video. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/u/0/d/166y8JCXwhdmpjnT2Ah1Z8q9TIYxPdk2Z=w402-h300-p-k-nu-iv1 “Somebody to you” by The Vamps ft Demi Lovato is a brilliant example of where Van Zoonen’s Feminist theory is displayed in the media. In the music video, there is an obvious discourse presenting the boys as masculine, sporty and stereotypically ‘attractive’, which is used to entice their target audience of younger, teenaged females to watch their music video. On the other hand, the girls in the music video are portrayed to be pretty, vulnerable, slightly clueless, or in other words ‘dumb blondes’. They are also objectified to be seen as a decoration, which can be identified in ...

3 Media Language and Representation

Image
In this post, I am going to be conducting research revolving around the concepts of media language and representation in my chosen brief - music videos. This shall help me identify the specific conventions of media language and representation, so that I am able to include them successfully in my own music video. For this task I am going to explore and gain a deeper understanding of the media language elements and techniques used in music videos, and how the ways in which producers use different techniques in order to construct these representations, and appeal them to the target audience. This will be predominant in allowing me to uncover a deeper assimilation of what it takes to create protest music video such a success in the contemporary world of music videos. I will be pulling apart two music videos, looking into including the use of ca merawork,  editing,  soundtrack,  mise en scène, and how and why these media language elements may have been used to portray the imag...

NEA Planning Task1- My Audience /

Image
THIS IS MY NEW SURVEY!!! https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/9XMTY6V Survey Analysis: Below is a series of screenshots of my results from my music video survey, which I created in order to find out some key information about how I should go about approaching my music video for production. In order to gain a wide range of responses in regards to age group, I decided to post my survey link via snapchat, a platform that is targeted towards the younger audience, and Facebook, because I have family members, friends and work colleges on there who vary in age and gender. From my results, I have been able to gather a large cohort of responses, varying from person to person, but coming together for form minority and majority in how popular each category was. I will use my information to establish a target audience for my music video, which will help me with not only the physical production of the video, but also with distribution and exhibition, as I will be able to promote my music video on p...

2 Intertextuality Research /

Image
What is intertextuality? Intertextuality- A  literary device that creates an 'interrelationship between texts' and generates related understanding in separate works.  These references are made to influence the reader and add layers of depth to a text, based on the readers' prior knowledge and understanding. In this Intertextuality research task, I will be exploring how a wide range of media products in the category of 'Music video' use intertextuality in order to appeal content to a wider range of audiences, as oppose to just one. In addition to this, I will also be highlighting what makes these references to other media texts effective. For reference and purely as an example, here are some examples of intertextuality in Stranger Things: The light shone on 11 which is an almost identical to the take from E.T Where 11 is dressed in Nancy's clothes with a wig, which is what happens to E.T, to make the alien appear more 'normal' or 'human'. Joyce B...
